I’ll never forget the moment I realized I was ready to start my own business... I was working at the local beauty counter and while the worst of the recession had passed, things still were very much at a standstill in retail. Jobs were not in abundance, people were choosy about their spending, and moving up in the company felt like a pipe dream. I finally had to ask myself, “Jess do you really want to just sell makeup or do you want to DO makeup?” I didn’t know why I was still treading water. I guess I was waiting to wake up one day and just know it was the magical moment to really do my own thing. I realized in that moment that the opportunities would not present themselves until I made actual space for them in my life. I put my two weeks in the next day and it was by far the best decision I ever made.

This was not the only crossroad moment in my beauty career. Being in the beauty industry for 20 years and having run my bridal beauty team Polish & Pout for 14 years, my business has been through every iteration possible...from your local makeup counter gal, to wedding weekend warrior, to working out of my home, to having a brick and mortar. I’ve not only mastered my craft but climbed my way from side hustle to six figures.

I’ve gone from solo artist to running a beauty team, having a multitude of bridal features under my belt, features in major magazines, celebrity clientele, loads of commercial work, hundreds upon hundreds of lovely brides, and even my own line of beauty products that I developed myself.

One thing I’ve always firmly believed is that there is room for all of us at the table and that includes YOU. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed. You bettering your business, betters our industry as a whole! This is why I am always excited to help other beauty pros work through obstacles and achieve their goals.
